If you have been following The Issue Magazine, you know how passionate we are about #sustainablefashion. We’ve shared our thoughts on #sustainability, provided a guideline on how to shop #secondhand and #thrift quality clothes and accessories, and featured many #local #sustainablefashionshops. It just feels “so right” for us to partner with The Nobles Management - an internationally recognized modelling agency based in Calgary to host the very first #sustainabilityfashionshow called #FIBRE.

So Calgary, this one is for you!

#FIBRE21 - Home For The Holidays

#FIBRE21 is an intimate evening gathering where local fashion designers, artists, gurus, lovers, aficionados and experts come together to enjoy the beautiful works of TEN ethical and sustainable fashion brands.

●      Fireflies for Lanterns - @firefliesforlanterns - a Calgary-based online ready-to-wear label by Canadian fashion designer, Sasmitha Dellawa. Her work was featured at the London Fashion Week 2017. All of the pieces are ethically sourced and produced by workers in Sri Lanka where Sasmitha was born.

●      TrippyHippy Clothing - @trippyhippyclothing - a Calgary- and UK-based fashion brand that is created to inspire and bring a unique blast of colour to the world. Nearly all pieces are one of a kind and all are hand-created by Canadian fashion designer, Victoria Patterson.

●      Duffield - @duffield_design - a #MadeInCanada brand designed and manufactured using high-quality, natural, eco textiles by Megan Duffield. The brand focuses on developing timeless pieces that transcend age - essential prices that become favourites in our everyday wardrobes.

●      Devon + Lang - @devonandlang - a brand that was started by entrepreneurs, Tyler McCombs and Dayna McCombs in 2019 with the mission to “Build Better Basics Through Innovation and Iteration”. Previously started as a men’s and women’s underwear brand that is made with eco-friendly fabrics, built to last and in styles that feel timeless, Devon + Lang has pivoted to design face masks and socks. Recently, they have launched their first women’s line, The Bira Collection.

  ●    The Good Tee - @thegoodtee_ - next to oil, the apparel industry is the planet’s most destructive industry. However, there’s a way to bring to market products that are ethically produced, sustainable, and certifiably “good”. The Good Tee was created to make it easier for you to purchase guilt-free, responsibly-made fashion basics. Their Fairtrade Certified Organic Cotton pieces are designed and delivered to you with the environment and ethical manufacture in mind. They achieve this through the good and honest relationships maintained with partners and through 100% transparency of a supply chain which The Good Tee tracks throughout its lifespan - from farm to finished garment right through to delivery

●  Got Bag - @gotbag - the world’s first backpack made of ocean plastic. The brand was founded by Benjamin Mandos in 2016 after finding a shocking fact about disposable bottles, bowls, ropes, nets, tubs - that these plastics won’t be completely decomposed after 400 years! Its mission is to “Create an Impact”, raise awareness and sensitize people worldwide to a more conscious use of natural resources.

●      601 Royal - @601royal - a Calgary-based vintage, designer and contemporary store that carries unique items for men, women and unisex.

●  Brave Soles - @bravesoles.life – Brave Soles is female-owned, ethically produced and globally inspired, handcrafted sandals and accessories for men and women. Their products are made from upcycled airplane leathers and tire salvages from landfills in the Dominican Republic. They believe in work done with dignity, sustainability and a future that we can all create together.

●  Dinadi - @dinadinepal - an ethical knitwear brand that was founded by husband and wife, Preston and Mirjam. When Preston and Mirjam visited Nepal nine years ago, they saw the lifestyle they lived in their youth was different from these warm-hearted beings. The vision of helping Nepalese, who have faced environmental, political and social issues, resulted in helping families who are struggling by giving them financial security and the support they need. With the help of over fifty local knitters, DINADI products are 100% knitted, boxed and packaged in Nepal, and are currently being sold in 137 stores, in 12 countries.

Studio Hexe - @studio.hexe - a hand-made and sourced clothing brand in Calgary, Alberta.

The event will also have the participation of 26 emerging and talented models from The Nobles Management. Some of them have made their names in international campaigns, such as Banana Republic’s #holidaycampaign and Holt Renfrew’s #HolidayBeautyDrops campaign.

After such a long pause due to the pandemic, we come together to celebrate us, celebrate our dreams and spirits of each other and celebrate 2021 - a year of evolving, adapting and pivoting for the fashion community.
