Testing Viral Fashion Hacks - Turning Eyeshadow into Graphic Liner
If your social media algorithms are like ours here at The Issue Magazine, chances are you get tons of viral fashion and makeup hacks that pop up in your feed. And if you’re anything like the Issue Magazine’s writer Nandini, the tons and tons of hacks get lost in your Instagram saves until you’re in a rush to get ready and super unsure whether the particular hack is worth the gamble of testing it out. Wouldn’t it be easier if someone tried out the most exciting hacks and told you whether they are worth trying out? We at The Issue Magazine believe a great fashion look can be easily attainable, so we’ve decided to start a new series where we test and outline how to accomplish these viral hacks! Read on below to see how our writer Nandini turned eyeshadow into graphic liner for an on-the-go hack.
Nandini: My funky-makeup loving-self needs a graphic liner to jazz up a look whenever I’m going out- something that can be so hard to find. You can imagine my excitement when I saw this hack online using something that most makeup-lovers already have in their collection - setting spray! I’ll be testing out using makeup setting spray on eyeshadow to turn it into a graphic liner and see how well it performs.
Products I’ll be using:
Eyeshadow palette: Makeup Revolution
Setting spray: NYX Dewy Finish Setting Spray
Concealer: Tarte Shape Tape Concealer
Mascara
I’ve seen two variations of this hack that I’ll be trying out:
1) Applying setting spray onto the brush and picking up eyeliner using the wet brush
For this method, I sprayed setting spray directly onto my brush and used the wet brush on my eyeshadow palette like I normally would.
2) Spraying setting spray directly onto eyeshadow palette
In this method, I sprayed setting spray onto my eyeshadow palette and used my dry brush like I normally would.
I did the first method using a pink shade eyeshadow, and tried the second method using a dark brown shade to see if there was any difference that color might make. To make it fair, I also repeated the same methods but swapped the eyeshadow color.
When putting setting spray onto the brush as in the first method, the liner didn’t turn out very pigmented and the lines were not as sharp as I would have liked. But when I used the second method and sprayed right onto the eyeshadow palette, I was pleasantly surprised to see the lines were pigmented and sharp, and the brush gilded more easily. I could more easily create the shape I wanted! Even when I swapped eyeshadow shades, spraying onto the eyeshadow palette remained the best method to use eyeshadow as graphic liner.
What’s the verdict?
I would definitely use this method again! Colorful eyeshadow palettes provide an endless variety of liner shades, something I plan to make full use of, and after testing out both methods I’d definitely always go for putting setting spray directly on the palette rather than onto the brush.
