When you think of vintage clothing shops, you don’t necessarily come up with images of funky boutique stores with a myriad of fashionable, new-looking items to choose from, but this is exactly what the owner of Peacock Boutique, Michelle Morigeau has created. Peacock Boutique is definitely a one-of-a-kind emporium reflected in the atmosphere and unique pieces inside. 

99% of customers do not believe us when we say we are consignment. The shop smells, looks, and feels like a new boutique shop.

Michelle truly has lived up to her vision of making her consignment shop give you the feeling of browsing through a beautiful boutique shop filled with racks of stylish clothing.

Her passion for fashion is deeply rooted in history - the history of this boutique itself. You can clearly see and feel the love she has for her store.

The Peacock Boutique Dress Agency was originally opened in 1975. My parents took over the business in the early 90s…I took over the Peacock to continue my mother’s legacy.

Since 2012 when Michelle took over the shop, she has opened three new locations, completely revamping the business to what it is today. There are locations in Inglewood, Kensington, and the Beltline. The Peacock Boutique has been voted by consumers as Calgary’s best consignment store for three years running. This goes to show you really can do anything you dream of!

So, what are some of the secrets of the Peacock Boutique?

Famous celebrities have been known to visit the shop but as for who they are, Michelle’s lips are sealed.

All three locations are organized, so you can easily browse through items as everything is sorted by colour and style. Further yet, everything in the boutique is carefully merchandised and displayed to let you pick from an outstanding variety of beautiful, unique pieces.

When you shop vintage, you are guaranteed unique clothing and accessories, as Michelle states “not like everyone else is wearing.

 When you shop at Peacock Boutique you will find what you desire no matter your age. With a variety of choices, you are sure to find several items you love regardless of your age. Customers who regularly frequent this store are between 16 and 60 years old.

 As for Michelle’s personal fashion, she currently loves plaid shirts and work overalls. One of the favourite items in her closet right now is her vintage gemstone earrings, passed down from her mother.

Vintage shopping is made even greater because there is always a story behind the items you find. Fashion is a form of expression and as Michelle puts it,

“I have always loved fashion as an expression of a person’s true self.”

What advice does Michelle give to those of you that dream of opening your own business but are unsure how to make it happen?

“Be prepared for hard work. Make sure it is something that you are devoted to and love with all of your being and GO FOR IT!”
