Mojave State of Mind

VANCOUVER, BRITISH COLUMBIA (March 2023) – MALVADOS Footwear and Melt Kimonos have collaborated to create Mojave State of Mind - a curated Festival Edit. Both brands are Canadian, female owned and operated. Jen Rainnie of MALVADOS and Stephanie Pym of MELT wanted to capture the essence of the collab with a photo journalistic road trip through the California desert. Photographed by Sandra Lowe, a California transplant also from Vancouver.

“The backdrop of Joshua Tree was the perfect natural landscape and setting for this campaign” expressed Sandra. “I love to shoot predominantly with film and natural light. The textures and details of the Kimonos set against the tapestry of rock formations was magical.” The brands have a shared inspiration from the music of the lates and greats. MALVADOS has always drawn inspiration from iconic women of rock ‘n’ roll and the wild at heart while MELT’s most recent collection highlights 90’s hip hop culture, luxurious Japanese craftsmanship and upcycled wearable art for the free spirited and well-travelled citizens of creation.

“Our mission has always been to offer fashionable footwear for the girl who loves to wander, seeks adventure and is always plugged into music.” said Jennifer Rainnie. “Our Platform collection offers that same comfort we are known for but with a trendy edge perfect for Festival season.” The Festival Edit – Mojave State of Mind - features 2 open toe Platform styles in various colors from MALVADOS, 6 kimonos dedicated to the artists of the 90’s, and 2 from a past collection that fit with the festival theme from MELT. Steph has been creating art with Kimonos for years, the latest collection symbolizes the dawn of a new direction for Melt; seasonal collections and custom commissioned work. “Having a special piece of clothing that speaks to you personally, tells a part of your story and empowers you, is rare.”
